Day 216. Thursday . Tomorrow I must post my daughter’s birthday card. I hope I have left enough time. A couple of days ago I received a birthday card intended for my birthday in March and posted 8th! Better late than never I suppose.
I don’t know what is happening to me lately. I wake early. I go out on the terrace with my coffee and book and simply enjoy until I have had enough or the sun reaches the terrace and it gets too hot. I do not feel inclined to write or organise anything, I simply want to BE and what is wrong with that? Nothing. I am in an environment that suits me from head to toe, summer is here and I feel that I am living a very privileged life and I am so full of love and gratitude. I eventually came in and intended to go on the computer but every part of me was resisting so I cleaned the floor instead!
The main part of my day as far as activity is concerned was starting at 5.30pm in the afternoon. I had washed my hair and “screwed it up” and I put on my girl from Ipanema dress and went to meet E- at the fountain. At 6.00 there was going to be a race along the Riva so we went to support. We met one of the girls from the expat group, her husband was running. They own a little shop and had a team entering. We stood and cheered. D- had hurt his leg but still wanted to run so set off at the back. A- was supporting him so we cheered madly as they went past. We then made ourselves comfortable at Brassiere 7 with a glass of white wine and waited for the runners to come back.
We had a second glass even though they were all back but we were waiting for I- and C-, and also guests. A number of people told me how lovely I looked in my dress. Anything is better than that winter wardrobe. We headed off to the museum for 8.00pm. We just made it in time for the opening of the fashion exhibition. It’s a real Romeo and Juliet scene and all up the steps of the villa were people dressed in old clothes of by gone days. These all came from the drama section at the theatre just for decoration.
Finally we went inside. All the clothes, shoes, eye glasses, irons, cloaks, some jewellery etc were donated by the wealthy important families of Split and were very beautiful indeed. It made a nice exhibition. There was food and drink provided as well and so we had another lovely time. The guests were from England and so the company was extra interesting as they were very appreciative of being able to come to what was essentially another activity for the people of Split not something created for the tourists. I love this Town. New York, New York? Frank Sinatra is singing in the background. Give me Split, Split, Split every time.
I took myself home around 9.30pm and finished my evening with an early episode of the Darling Buds Of May on Croatian TV! PURFIC. I am living a dream.
